The Data Behind Every “Best Of” List You’ve Ever Ignored

Most product recommendation sites are written by people who have never seen a sales dashboard in their life. They rank products by which brand pays the highest commission, dress it up with stock photos, and call it research.

I’ve spent 13 years on the other side of that screen.

I worked inside Amazon. I now run an agency that manages advertising and growth for 30+ brands across India, the US, UK, and UAE — which means every single day, I see the numbers most reviewers only guess at: what people actually search for, what they actually buy, what they return, and which “bestsellers” quietly have a 20% return rate that no review site will ever tell you about.

ChartBuys exists because I got tired of watching good products lose to good marketing.

Why I Built This

Here’s something that changed how I think about shopping.

A few years into running my agency, a client came to us with a genuinely excellent kitchen product — better materials, better engineering, honest pricing. It was getting buried on page four of Amazon behind products that were, frankly, worse. Not slightly worse. Measurably worse: higher return rates, worse review velocity, more complaints about the exact thing the product was supposed to do.

The difference? The page-one products had bigger ad budgets and better-optimized listings. That’s it.

That’s when it clicked: the gap between what sells and what’s actually good is a data problem — and I happen to sit on the data.

Every recommendation on ChartBuys starts with the same questions I ask when auditing a brand professionally:

  • What does the search data say people are really trying to solve?
  • Which products hold their ranking organically vs. which ones are propped up by ad spend?
  • What do return rates and review patterns reveal that star ratings hide?
  • Is this product still good at month six, or just at unboxing?

If a product can’t survive that analysis, it doesn’t get recommended here — no matter what commission it pays.

You’re not reading opinions on this site. You’re reading the same analysis I’d charge a brand for, pointed in your direction instead.

The Person Behind the Charts

I’m Rajeshkumar. I live and work in Chennai, India, where I co-founded Thrise, an Amazon Ads Verified Partner agency, after more than a decade in eCommerce — including my years inside Amazon itself.

A few things about how I work that matter to you:

I’m allergic to hedged answers. If two products are genuinely tied, I’ll say so. But most of the time, the data points somewhere — and I’ll tell you exactly where and why, in plain numbers. If a product is the best choice for most people but wrong for you specifically, I’ll tell you that too.

I’ve seen how the sausage is made. I know how listings get optimized, how reviews get seeded, and how “Amazon’s Choice” badges actually work. That knowledge works for you here. When I say a product’s reviews look organic, it’s because I know exactly what manufactured ones look like.

I answer to readers, not brands. My agency work pays my bills. ChartBuys is where I get to be purely on the buyer’s side of the table — no client relationships, no sponsored rankings, no pay-to-play.

An honest note on how this site makes money

ChartBuys earns affiliate commissions when you buy through links on this site — at no extra cost to you. Here’s the part that matters: the commission never decides the ranking. Every “best of” list is built from the data first; the links come after. If the best product in a category pays nothing, it still tops the list. That’s the whole point of this site existing.
